Welcome to HGSS
Halton Gujarati Seniors Samaj also knew as HGSS is registered, not for profit charitable Seniors Group It was established to provide a forum for social interaction, entertainment and information sessions for Gujarati speaking seniors residing in Halton, including Milton, Oakville, Burlington and surrounding areas.
It is the welfare of and for the seniors participating in the social, cultural and economic integration to help them to settle into Canada…In addition, the HGSS curriculum includes Government services, benefits and any information that helps to seniors orientate Canadian way of life. This in return, helps them to become participating members of Canadian society.
Halton Gujarati Seniors Samaj began as a group in the year 2914, with fifteen Senior Gujarati Community Members across Halton that would meet for social reasons and now due to the rapid growth in Halton, we now have over one hundred registered members. With the rapid growth in membership, we are requesting funding that will be used to cover the cost of renting a space for our seniors to meet, socialize, participate in educational programs, guided exercise/physical activities, including Yoga, to promote Health and Wellbeing. Due to all the work, we are currently doing in the Community with seniors, we are continuing to receive requests from seniors to join our Halton Gujarati Seniors Samaj.
Halton Gujarati Seniors Samaj would like to request funding for transportation to take seniors to and from Religious Services at Temple on a weekly basis, want to attend Special Activities & Cultural festivals and to socialize the events around GTA and to celebrate 150th Canada Day in Ottawa. We, HGSS members are interested in performing one item, in front of our PM. Hon Justin Trudeau in Ottawa at the Canada 150 Celebration and will be using funding if granted, to assist in covering costs for this trip.
Due to the fact, Halton Region Mobile Meal Programs for seniors does not seem to have an option of culturally sensitive vegetarian meals available, Halton Gujarati Seniors Samaj would like prepare and deliver culturally sensitive vegetarian meals to seniors in the Gujarati Community. If funding is granted, seniors facing health or mobility issues would have a home cooked meal prepared and delivered to them by volunteers of the Halton Gujarati Seniors Samaj to ensure proper nutrition and spend time with the senior for mental wellness.
